🎀My Whimsical Weekend Morning Routine🎀

Hello there, Folk of the Hollow!

Because of how early I have to be up for my regular 9-5 job ( 5:30 AM ugh ) I don't get to romanticize my mornings the way I want to in order to really feel like the fairytale main character I aspire to be. When you have to get up way earlier than your brain and body are wired to do (I’m definitely one of those people who are biologically wired to being a night person. I don’t wake up fully until 10 or so in the morning and I work best after the sun goes down) trying to romanticize anything is the last thing on your mind. At that point, you are simply just trying to get through until your brain and body actually wake up.

So-- I do what I can, when I can.

I try to romanticize my mornings on the weekends as much as possible to make up for it. I’m more able to just take my time and wake up when I’m good and ready, so a lot of my romanticizing happens on the weekends. I try to start my mornings slow and easy, and I try not to pick up my phone first thing. I’ve found that if I pick up my phone and scroll too early in the day, I’m more tired and in more of a sour mood from then on. I start worrying about just . . . well . . . everything. The world has a chance to creep in, and I stop feeling like the main character in a fairytale almost immediately.

In the spirit of that, here are the whimsical ways I try to romanticize my morning to maximize the feeling of living and breathing in my own little fairytale ~ đź’—

First, I like to start the morning with a good breakfast.

Today it was bagels with strawberry cream cheese and a nice big mug of English breakfast tea. I wanted to do something a little bit more themed this morning, so I got out my favorite white plate with the pink bows and the matching mug to have my breakfast on. Little details sometimes make the biggest difference when it comes to romanticizing your life.

Something as small as having a cute pink breakfast that matches your dinnerware can have a huge impact on your mood for the rest of the day. It’s so nice to just sit and sip your tea without any rush, nosh a little on your pink bagel, and just leisurely coast through the morning without a care in the world.

By this point in the morning, I’ve still tried to stay away from my phone. Right now, thing matters but the meal in front of me and listening to the quiet twittering of the birds in the big tree right outside my office window.

Once I’ve finished eating, I move on to the next part of my soft, whimsical morning.

I read.

Reading in the morning always sets me up for a good, calm rest of my day, and its one of my favorite ways to wake up. There’s no rush with a good book—you snuggle in with a blanket and a pillow, open up to the last page you were on, and simply get lost in the story.

Right now I’m reading Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin for the first time. I’ve tried reading it before but had to take a minute to get used to the change in format from the other books. When I picked it up I didn’t realize at first that it was going to be written in the style of an ancient history of Westeros, but honestly now that I’m really getting into the meat of it I’m starting to love it.

It’s a unique way to worldbuild and tell a story that is in the same universe as Game of Thrones, but separated from that particular storyline by a couple hundred years.

Morning reading is my absolute favorite thing in the world. It’s so soothing to know you have nowhere to go, nothing else you need to do, and you can just read until you’re good and ready to stop.

Usually this next one is paired with reading, but I love snuggling my cats first thing in the morning

Hearing them purr and watching them act so happy and relaxed puts me in a great mood and keeps me nice and calm. Salem is an especially good snuggler. When we first got him, the place we got him from had it in his file that he was a “snuggle bug.” They always put that the temperaments can change if you get them as a kitten, but Salem’s never did. He stayed my sweet, wonderful snuggle bug his whole life. His sitting on my lap right now as I type this, licking my arm like the sweetie pie he is.

Pairing snuggling with the cats with reading a good book is a good way to risk me falling back asleep. As someone with anxiety who routinely suffers from a frayed nervous system, listening to the soft rumble of their purring and Salem’s loud wheezing soothes me in a way very little else can do—and not nearly as fast as anything else. I can be totally stressed out one minute, but when I’ve got my cats with me it’s hard to stay that way for long.

So its only natural that pairing the two together would serve for a calm and easy fairytale morning.

That's how I try to romanticize my mornings on the weekend! How do you romanticize your mornings? I wanna know!

Until next time ~
