A Surprise Sick Day
Happy Saturday, Folk of the Hollow!
I had big plans for the day—I was going to sit down at my desk and write some more in Project Flowers. I made myself a coffee, did a little reading, and opened all the windows in the library. The weather is hitting what I call “liar spring,” meaning that for a few days starting today and going until about the end of this upcoming week the temperature is going to peek up over the usual 30-40 degree highs, so having the windows open made the library feel fresh and soothing.
But when I put my fingers to the keyboard to write . . . I couldn’t make it happen.
Hardly unusual. Every writer goes through times when the words just won’t come and you sit there banging your head against the keyboard.
I went downstairs for some breakfast, hoping that maybe if I ate something it would help get the creative juices flowing.
Spoiler Alert: it didn’t.
I ended up staying downstairs all day. When I got up, my throat had been hurting but I just chalked that up to having just gotten out of bed. It happens sometimes, though I’m not sure why (What am I? A doctor? Nah, I just play one on tv).
But as the day went on, I realized the scratchy ache in my throat wasn't just not going away, but it was actively feeling worse.
I was sluggish and couldn’t make my brain focus on anything. So instead of trying to force creativity (something I’m actively trying to stop doing, not just when I’m sick but in general) and making a product that I don't like and that is actively terrible, I decided to take the day off.
Danny played Like a Dragon on the PS5 (the second one just came out, so we’re finishing up our playthrough of the first one before we start it!) while I sat all snuggled up with my favorite pink blanket and did a little crochet. I’m determined to finally finish my Rapunzel themed tote bag that I started a lifetime ago—so keep your fingers crossed for me!
All-in-all it was a lazy Saturday and I feel better. My throat doesn’t hurt anymore and I feel like I might be able to write tomorrow, fingers crossed!
I hope you guys had a great Saturday too! Did you do anything special today? Or did you also spend your day relaxing?
I’ll see you guys next time. Bye-bye!
