I Got Some New Books! 📚 A Video Game Book-alike Haul
Hello Folk of the Hollow, and welcome to the cottage library!
It’s warm in the library today. I opened the windows to let the unseasonably February warmth in (it’s 72 degrees right now, with a nice cool breeze that occasionally comes in through the window) and I made myself a nice cup of chai tea. I’m really happy to have you here with me among the piles of books! You won’t be-leave the new ebooks I got!
I wanted to do a small book haul—but I was worried I didn’t have enough books to constitute a “haul.” I’ve only got three books, and I wasn’t sure if I needed to have more books before I could do a proper “haul.”
That being said, I was excited to talk about these books and I don’t think a haul should be limited to only a large pile of whatever you’re hauling. A haul should be something you're eager to show other people, and I’m definitely eager to show you guys the books I got recently!
A little backstory on these: I saw a short on Youtube (I think it was on YouTube?) where a guy was talking about “if you like x game, you’ll like x book.” I can’t remember who the guy was, but my interest was absolutely piqued. I got a couple of the books on his list, and that’s the theme of this haul!
Like I said before, these are strictly ebooks. I don’t care what anyone says, ebooks and audiobooks are just as good of a reading method as paperbacks. Really, anything that gets people to enjoy the stories out there in the world is ay-okay with me.
Anyway that’s a tangent you didn’t ask for—so let’s get into the haul so I can climb down off my soap box.
Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman
“Set in 1348 France during the Black Death, where a disgraced knight, Thomas, escorts a mysterious young girl, Delphine, across a plague-ridden, demon-infested landscape to Avignon, as Lucifer and fallen angels wage a second war against Heaven, turning the world into a battleground for humanity's soul.”
On the list of “if you’ll like x book, you’ll like x game”, Between Two Fires is what was suggested for if you enjoyed playing A Plague Tale, which I absolutely did! So far this book is really good—but also a bit slow. Whenever I start thinking that it might be too slow, it picks back up and keeps me going.
After I’m done I’ll give a better review, these are just my first thoughts!
The West Passage by Jared PechaÄŤek
“The West Passage by Jared Pechaček is a debut fantasy novel about a decaying palace-city where the death of the Guardian of the West Passage triggers a quest to find a successor and confront an ancient Beast stirring beneath the city. The story follows the Guardian's squire and the too-young Mother of Grey House as they journey through the dangerous West Passage, a place of strange horrors and wonders, to save their people.”
Apparently, fans of Hollow Knight would really enjoy The West Passage, so color me intrigued! I haven’t broken into this one yet so I can’t say much, but my interest is piqued by the summery I found online. I’m down for anything that is Hollow Knight adjacent.
I sure do love Hollow Knight a lot for someone who has never finished the first game and hasn’t even started Silk Song yet!
Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank
“Alas, Babylon is a classic 1959 post-apocalyptic novel by Pat Frank that depicts the aftermath of a nuclear war in the fictional town of Fort Repose, Florida, focusing on the struggle for survival, community, and the rebuilding of civilization as infrastructure collapses and lawlessness emerges.”
I think you can probably surmise which video game this one is like (it’s Fallout). Of the three in this series, I think I’m probably going to break into this one last, but I’m really excited to see what it’s about!
Thank you guys for enduring me chattering about my new books! I can’t wait to get them all read and do reviews for you guys if they’ve piqued your interest and you want to know my thoughts!
Have you gotten any books you’re excited about? Lets talk about them in the comments!
Until next time!
